Good morning, dear friends.
Last evening, I shared the story of my grandfathers and their lives of serenity and detachment. This morning, I remembered another incident that reflects their unwavering faith and devotion to the Supreme Being.
I had mentioned that my grandfather from my mother’s side built a temple for Lord Narayana in his village in South India. One day, while taking a short nap after long hours in the fields, he had a vivid dream. Lord Narayana appeared before him and said, “You are sleeping, but the priest has stolen my jewels and is selling them to the goldsmith.” He woke up immediately. Without speaking to anyone, he rushed to the nearby town and found the priest selling the Lord’s jewels. Calmly, he brought him back to the temple and asked him to adorn the Lord again with the ornaments. Then he quietly returned home.
Only my grandmother and eldest sister ever knew about this incident. My grandfather never expressed anger or accusation. The priest continued to live with his family in the house given to him and served the temple faithfully for the rest of his life.
As I write this, I am filled with gratitude to these noble souls for deeply instilling in me the path of devotion and service.
